Ex-LED ZEPPELIN Guitarist Opens UK Charity Office
September 25, 2002Former LED ZEPPELIN guitarist Jimmy Page has opened the new UK offices of a Brazilian children's charity in Suffolk.
Page is patron of Action for Brazil's Children Trust, which was set up in 1998 by his wife, Jimena Gomez Paratcha, to improve life for the country's deprived children.
Charity leaders say the office opening yesterday marks a new and dynamic stage of development in its work.
Jimmy Page said: "My life has afforded me the opportunity to travel all over the world. In doing so, I have witnessed the plight of children. Having worked with the projects in Brazil for the last seven years, I feel there can be no greater legacy than investing in our future by helping to improve the lives of today's children."
Jimena Gomez Paratcha added: "It's very exciting to see the charity grow and move on so that more and more children will benefit from all of our efforts."
Action for Brazil's Children (ABC) has grown significantly in recent years and as well as helping education and community projects, supports an instructor training program for an innovative children's circus project and helps fund a refuge for abandoned children and lone mothers. One-off grants are also made to other projects in Brazil to help abused or at risk children.
